Harry Brisson writes books here instead of a newsletter. You pay once for a book. Chapters arrive as they are finished, and you can watch the drafts grow before then. If a book is ever abandoned, the unwritten part is refunded.
The deal
Each book page lists its planned chapters and a price for a digital copy, a printed copy, or a sponsor credit. You pay that price once.
Chapters move through four stages. While a chapter is being drafted you can watch its word count grow. When it reaches editing, backers can read it and leave notes. When it is published, it earns one chapter's share of what you paid. Some chapters are free for anyone to read.
The book page shows the running total: how much has been earned by published chapters and how much is still held. If the book is abandoned, the held amount goes back to you. Nothing renews, so there is nothing to cancel.
